LED grow light and timer switch
Grow lights are commonly used to substitute sunlight when growing plants indoors. They provide light spectrums similar to the sun and operate on the same principle as Seasonal Affective Disorder lamps used for light therapy.
Here the suspended grow light is controlled by a timer switch programmed to turn on at the time of sunrise and off at sunset in Rapa Iti, an island in French Polynesia. Rapa Iti is the closest landmass to the point on the globe that is diametrically opposite Athens where the work was exhibited.
As Greece is 13 hours ahead of French Polynesia, the light was illuminated when the gallery was closed. For example, on June 27 the light switched on at 7:28pm and off at 5:43am Athens time.
